The credentialing framework requires overseas-trained EMTs and paramedics to undergo qualification review and complete local training requirements for integration into Singapore's emergency medical services.

A credentialing framework has been established to ensure that all Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics trained overseas meet Singapore's standards. This framework allows qualified professionals to be officially recognised and integrated into the local emergency medical services system.

Training

Completed training in paramedicine or nursing comparable to accredited local EMT programmes.

Certification accredited by professional regulatory bodies in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom (UK), or United States of America (USA).

Registration

NIL

Registered as a paramedic in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, or with the US National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for at least one year and in good standing.

Experience

NIL

Not required for paramedics with equivalent training or current paramedic practice. Nurses must have at least three years of experience in Emergency Department (ED) or pre-hospital/ambulance care.

Application Process

    • Applications are reviewed by UPEC's PEC Training Review Panel.

    • Processing time is approximately 3-4 weeks.

Note: Work pass renewal applications are processed administratively and do not require panel review.

PEC Training Review Panel

The PEC Training Review Panel assesses the credentials of paramedic and EMT candidates seeking employment in Singapore. The panel comprises qualified professionals recognised by UPEC, including:

  • Nurses

  • Paramedics

  • Emergency Medicine (EM) physicians

Each panel includes at least one EM physician to ensure medical expertise in the evaluation process. The UPEC Clinical Director assigns panel members to review your qualifications and ensure they meet the national standards for emergency medical services.

List of Recognised Foreign-Trained Paramedic Qualifications

The List of Recognised Foreign-Trained Paramedic Qualifications serves as a guideline to identify training programmes that are comparable to Singapore’s standards for paramedics. These qualifications are reviewed periodically to ensure they remain aligned with the evolving best practices in emergency medical services.

Applicants with qualifications from countries or programmes not included in this list are still encouraged to apply. The PEC Training Review Panel will review these applications to assess the comparability of their training and experience to local standards.
