Resuscitation Academy (Leadership and High Performance CPR)

The Resuscitation Academy (RA) is a world-leading organisation dedicated to improving outcomes from Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) through evidence-based system change. Originating in Seattle, RA supports EMS systems worldwide in strengthening the chain of survival using practical, data-driven strategies. In Singapore, the RA 10-Step Framework has provided a proven roadmap for improving OHCA survival, contributing to significant system-wide improvements over the past decade.
Through UPEC, Singapore conducts two core RA programmes locally and abroad: the RA Leadership Workshop and the High-Performance CPR (HPCPR) Workshop. RA workshops equip participants with practical tools, implementation strategies, and international best practices. Simultaneously, it provides opportunities to learn from experienced faculty, network with global leaders, and access comprehensive resources to support local improvement initiatives.
Over the years, the UPEC RA team has supported EMS agencies around the world in strengthening resuscitation systems and improving OHCA outcomes.

Resuscitation Academy Leadership Workshop
UPEC organised the first Resuscitation Academy Leadership Course in Southeast Asia in 2016. This two-day program introduces EMS leaders to the 10 steps for improving survival rates for cardiac arrest. Participants have the opportunity to learn from renowned faculty with proven expertise in leading successful resuscitation improvement initiatives, network with EMS leaders from global systems, and access comprehensive support materials.
Resuscitation Academy High Performance CPR Workshop
The High Performance CPR (HPCPR) workshop aims to optimise CPR delivery and improve survival rate for Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). This workshop equips EMS educators and healthcare professionals with evidence-based resuscitation techniques while emphasising the science behind CPR and the importance of data-driven performance improvement.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Directors Course

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Directors Course is the localised version of the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP) Medical Directors Course. The course aims to provide participants with specific management tools, networking opportunities to dialogue with other EMS physicians and professionals, and facilitate their understanding of how EMS functions within the Pre-hospital Emergency Care (PEC) sector. It also provides an overview of elements that run the range and depth of topics vital to EMS.
Originating from the National EMS Medical Directors Course & Practicum by the NAEMSP, the EMS Medical Director course is accredited by the Asia Association in EMS (AAEMS) in Asia.
The purpose of the Medical Directors’ Course is to provide comprehensive information and set the expected standards of potential and current Clinical Governance Officers (CGOs) under the private ambulance operators.

National Pre-hospital Emergency Care Workshop

This workshop was designed for EMTs, Paramedics and any other pre-hospital care practitioners. It was to enhance participants' knowledge and clinical skills in managing critical pre-hospital emergency conditions, including bleeding, shock, traumatic brain injury, and traumatic cardiac arrest.
Participants will have the opportunity to refresh and enhance their assessment knowledge and clinical skills through a series of lectures and hands-on practical skills stations.
Please check this section regularly for dates and registration details for the next National Pre-hospital Emergency Care Workshop.

NAEMT Courses
Various courses developed by NAEMT were introduced to enhance the knowledge of our pre-hospital providers. The NAEMT Courses in Singapore are coordinated by the Trauma Training Centre, TTSH (for trauma courses) and UPEC (for all other courses) in Singapore. UPEC members are also part of the PHTLS core faculty.
For more information about NAEMT and courses not offered in Singapore, please visit the NAEMT website.
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is recognised around the world as the leading continuing education program for pre-hospital emergency trauma care. NAEMT developed PHTLS in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma and has been led by the National Trauma Committee in Singapore since 2013. It is currently provided in two training centres in Singapore.
NAEMT Authorised Training Centres for PHTLS:
PHTLS for First Responders (PHTLS FR)
PHTLS for First Responders (PHTLS FR) adapts the world-class trauma care content from the 9th edition of PHTLS and delivers it in a style that is relevant to and accessible by first responders and EMTs.
Authorised Training Centres for PHTLS FR:
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) remains the gold standard of education for emergency medical assessment and treatment. AMLS emphasises the use of the AMLS Assessment Pathway, a systematic tool for assessing and managing common medical conditions with urgent accuracy. The course is endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians and was brought into Singapore by UPEC in 2019.
Authorised Training Centres for AMLS:
Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) / Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)
Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) was developed by the U.S. Department of Defense and the Joint Trauma System of the Defense Health Agency (DHA) to teach evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies to provide the best trauma care on the battlefield. The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course teaches EMS practitioners and other pre-hospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment.
Authorised Training Centres for TCCC & TECC:
SAF Medical Training Institute (SMTI)
Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS)
NAEMT’s Geriatric Education for EMS course prepares pre-hospital practitioners to respond to, assess, and care for this fast-growing patient population. This third edition of the course strengthens and enhances practitioners’ ability to provide the best care for older adults in every community.
The GEMS course helps EMS practitioners learn to conduct a comprehensive assessment of geriatric patients. Because the ageing process affects all body systems, NAEMT’s course provides an overview of changes that occur as people age and describes how those changes can impact patient presentation. Incorporation of the GEMS Diamond (Geriatric, Environmental, Medical, and Social assessments) can help practitioners formulate a holistic diagnostic and treatment approach.
Authorised Training Centres for GEMS:
Life Support Courses
Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) Provider Course
TTM was strongly recommended by ILCOR (2015) and NRC (2016) as a component of post-resuscitation care. It has been known to be effective in improving the survival rate and neurological function outcome of patients after cardiac arrest.
This course provides local providers with in-depth knowledge to manage patients on TTM. The course was organised by the National Post Cardiac Arrest & Survivorship(PCAS) Workgroup.
TTM Provider Course Content
Latest update of post-resuscitation care & TTM evidence and trial.
Singapore Guideline on TTM
